Hi,

Found these in www.london-gazette.co.uk whilst looking for patent applications:

London Gazette 6th March, 1857
485. To William Halsall and William Hayhurst, both of Bury, in the county of Lancaster, Machine Makers, for the invention of “an improved self acting “temple” to be employed in power looms for weaving”

London Gazette 12th December, 1862 (This also appears in the London Gazette dated 20th December, 1859)
2741. Richard Bond, of Burnley, in the county of Lancaster “Temple” and Roller Maker, and William Hayhurst, of the same place, Mechanic, for an invention of “improved machinery or apparatus to be employed in the manufacture of a certain description of temples used in power looms for weaving.” dated 3rd December, 1859

So not the Joiners Cramp but it does look to be your William that was applying for a Patent.

P,S, It was Esther Hayhurst that married Thomas Berry not Emma.  You can always check this by going to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Thank you Mo!
Your research means so much to me and my family.  We will be visiting the Queen Street Mill and other museums in Burnley.  I'm sure my kids will take special interest in learning what these inventions are and how they work.
