WOOLLEY family search ...
« on: Monday 13 June 11 16:24 BST (UK) »
Hi All
This is a first attempt - and not sure where to start really.  We immigrated as ten pound poms from the UK to Australia in 1966.
My father, Norman Woolley (b. 26.6.36) has since passed away in the last couple of years and I have decided to try and trace our Woolley family history. He was born to Emma Jane Shaw (Domestic Servant) and Archibald Woolley (Master Jeweller) - Emma & Archibald never married.  I believe they never even lived together, but Archibald supported Emma financially every month until my father was 16 years of age.
On my parents (Audrey June & Norman Woolley) marriage certificate of 1960, Archibald was listed as Watch & Clock Repairer, deceased.
I have absolutely no idea how to track Archibald or his family.  Any suggestions from Woolley family members ...
Regards
WarriorQueen1961

pity they didnt marry - a Certificate might have revealed Archibald W's Father's name and occupation..

Given that AW is not a common name, there wont be too many Birth Index entries .....

There's not many of that name - and given where / when Norman was born, this is the 'obvious' one ..

Births Mar 1902

Woolley  Archibald Trawford     W. Derby 8b 597

but with no other ID points for him, its a tough one ... he wont show an occupation in 1911 census as he is too young ...

and these men might be candidates ...

Births Mar 1913

Woolley  Archibald C F  Wilks  Greenwich  1d 1913

Births Jun 1913

Woolley  Archibald C  Dodd  Southam (Northants / Warks)  6d 1839

There are 4 or 5 older candidates back to c1878 ....

The 1901 census shows an Archibald WOOLLEY, watchmaker, aged 21, born Liverpool.  (RG13/4004/44/18)

Births Dec 1879
WOOLLEY  Archibald Thomas
W. Derby 8b 215

A check of the free index to the 1911 census suggests he is probably the father of Archibald Trawford WOOLLEY (mentioned above by Mort) - you would need to buy credits to view the full entry.

It's only circumstantial, but interesting...

The info. you gave gives a narrow death date for Archibald of 1952-60.
There's 1-Archibald T Woolley died;1st. Q 1956;Liverpool S.est. birth year of 1880.(aged 76)
This looks like MR's Archibald.
This Archie's parents came from Birmingham Warwickshire & the family can be traced back from there pre 1881.
