Edwinstowe parish records
« on: Monday 13 June 11 13:50 BST (UK) »
Hi all, i am looking for info on the Burden family from Edwinstowe Notts, I have James Burden born c1891 in Edwinstowe according to the 1841 census, no wife however son's James 1814 and George 1816, there is also Jane 1821.

I am unable to locate James in 1851, i am searching for a marriage record of James to give an indication as to who the children's parents are, also if James was baptised in Edwinstowe who his parents could be, Regards

Jason

Hi Jason,

Did you mean James was born c1791 and not 1891?

On my CD's of Nottinghamshire parish's  I found:

James christened 9 Aug 1814; Elizabeth christened 29 Aug 1816 buried 10 Sept 1816 aged 11 days; Sarah christened 24 Feb 1824 and Eliza christened 19 Nov 1826 all children of James and Fanny (Frances) Burden.
Sorry no Jane or George.

Also found James Burden and Frances Barks marriage 17 April 1843 Farnsfield, maybe this is James born 1814.

My Cds are not compete so will check the actual records at Nottingham archives for you tomorrow or Friday while I'm there.

Thank you so much, you have the right James and Frances Barks, he is the James born in 1814 son of James and now i have the name of his mother who i assume died before 1841 as she is absent from the 1841 census, and yes my apologies i did mean 1791

Thanks once again for the searches :-) regards

Jason

Hi Jason,

Found some more children of James And Frances for you,

George christened 14 Feb 1813 at Ossington Church,
Mary christened 24 Aug 1817 at Kneesall Church, living at Rufford
Jane christened 8 May 1820 at Kneesall Church, living at Rufford, it seems that James moved around the Villiages for work.

Frances died Sept 1836 buried 13 Sept 1836 aged 45yrs and James died May 1844 aged 53yrs buried 12 May 1844 both at Edwinstowe.

On I.G.I found a marriage that might be them 6 Dec 1810 at Blackwell by Alfreton Derbyshire James Burden and Frances Bomford

Also a possable birth of Frances Bamford 16 July 1787 at Saint Werburgh Derbyshire.

Thanks so much for the info, i think it highly likely to be the correct couple, just because James had children in Edwinstowe it doesn't mean he necessarily was born there!

this info is brilliant, thanks for taking the time to look these up for me.

Regards

Jason

I am doing this tree again after many years break. My family are from James 1816 and we went from Edwinstowe to Yorkshire Rotherham area roughly from farming to coal mining. We now live in New Zealand.
I am just off to celebrate my father's 89th (from yesterday birthday) as it is a very sunny day and I had decided it would be nice to finish off my lengthy research into the Burdens and see if the block with William Burden m Ann Burton at Egmanton had been solved yet I have further back notes but I hit a James Burden missing in between although I had a very likely family with a gap in the right place. But all the other people doing the same tree also wanted to prove it definitely. I am going to put all my info into a nice book which should take me some time!!
So in other words I am rechecking my notes to see if fresh info confirms things and I am happy to share info and contacts if it will help. I will check dates and info when I get back from our outing and dig out my files and tree. I did the wider branches not just the male line directly as I thought the siblings might give me clues. Definitely James was a problem in 1791.

Checked my tree and with the census info from 1841 to 1911 I am pretty sure I got it right. Now doing the side branches to check that info is correct.
Regards Liz
