HI,

My ROCHE family are from FEAGH nr. TUAM.

My grandad married ELLEN WILLIAMS from FEAGH.

My grandads brother MARTIN, looks to have married a MARY KELLY from FEAGH - I got that from the census return where MARY has a son MARTIN ROCHE, but the father is not there during the census.

I found matching marriage records for the couple although the year is different by 1 year - I think this is an error in transcription

My g-grandfather married KATE QUINN and it looks as though they lived at BALLYNAKILLA, BALLYGLUNIN for a number of years before moving back to FEAGH.

I have managed to track my grandfathers other 3 siblings who went to New York.
-------------------------

However, in the 1901 census there was a KATE ROCHE living in FEAGH who was a widow with 6 children.

She is the one I am trying to identify, and find out who her husband was.

One of her daughters DELIA emigrated to New York in 1915, aged 22 - the record shows she was born in FEAGH.

But I can't find a birth record for her.

I can't find a marriage record for her mother c.1885 in TUAM, so I guess she was from somewhere else.

There is a birth record for a DELIA ROCHE who is my grand-aunt, she emigrated to NEW YORK in 1909.

All very confusing.

Delia, age 9, born Co.Galway according to census.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

hi,

thanks for that, I have that record, plus a record at ELLIS ISLAND for DELIA in 1915.

But nothing else definite for that family!!

The 1911 census record at FEAGH is for my ancestors who were previously in BALLYNAKILLA.

There are only 2 children in the 1911 census as 3 siblings were in New York by then.

The other sibling had married but was not in the census.
---------

There are definitely DELIAs at ELLIS ISLAND.

One is 5'7 with GREY EYES,

The other is 5'6 with BLUE EYES.

One was born 25 DEC 1889, the other was born c. 1892.

Had to go out earlier so only got part of message posted.

By 1890s it's most likely that a birth would have been registered. Perhaps she was registered as an un-named female of with a different first name. Another possibility is that the birth was registered in a different place.

There are 7 townlands with 'feagh' in the name under Co. Galway so I'm not sure which is the correct one but the Poor Law Union is usually the same name as the registration district which might help you find a birth registration (see www.thecore.com/seanruad to find townlands and parishes in Ireland- be sure to change default setting from exact match).
