In 1861 They are together on the "Crinoline" - vessels Irish Sea It does not say Hugh is nephew, just "boy".  In 1871 Robert is widowed still b L'pool on the "Hilda" vessels Torquay".

Apologies - I see what you mean. Although they are together they have not been transcribed together.
I should have checked  ::)

I would be wary of linking them as uncle/nephew though at the moment- or to the family Robert/Hugh/Ann in Runcorn.

Do you have Robert in 1851? There is one here but age is out:
1851 HO107; Piece: 2179; Folio: 49; Page: 22
He is described as a boatman.
The baptism of the son Robert Samuel has father as a Mariner.

I can't see them in later censuses  :( and the problem is that there are several Robert/Hugh people.  :-\

Your Hugh, is the 'boy' born Runcorn and son of Rice/Reece. Is that right?

Hugh  s/o Rice with "Uncle" Robert on Crinoline 1861. Of course I can't prove it but there are several checks Robert b Liverpool (1841 not born in County), Hugh b Runcorn, ages of both check. Rice died 1849, so I think Robert takes his nephew Hugh's training on. I'll have a look at the Robert you found. Hard to find them because they areoften  at sea, and seem to have bases in Liverpool as well as Runcorn.

There is someone on the www.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk also looking into this family. It's on the Forum under Liverpool and headed Rice HUghes carpenter and mariner 1841

You might wish to look at it to see what has been found there.

That'll teach me to look at my emails at midnight. Liverpool site is me, too! Bercause the family has Liverpool as well as Cheshire, I tried both sites. I'm waiting for Admin for Rice 1851 and Will of Robert 1873. can't see that anything else will progress me, now.

Good luck - it does look quite favourable as you think. I tried to find other clues- marriages etc but to no avail.

I think you need to go and study All Saints Runcorn baptism, marriage and burial records. There are copies at Runcorn library.

If you are a distance get your nearest LDS Family History centre to order you copies.

PS Personally I think it's a good idea to make sure any board you post on knows you have posted elsewhere that way people trying to help don't duplicate research done already.
