Thank you so much.
That Thomas is ours - do you know when his wife, Lilias Mackay/Mackie died?

We think the James who married Agnes Reid is likely this Thomas' brother but we don't know the parents yet. The census says he was born in Edinburgh.

Looking forward to more :)

Dysart and Dunnikier are presumably where our Thomas Smeals and Lilias lived - although as 'head gamekeeper' I wonder whether it was at Dunnikier House that he worked.

"Mitchell MI's" - is this a place? I can't find it on 'google' What graveyard would this man be in?

I'm presuming that James and Agnes' children were buried in the Dunfermline (Lays Road) cemetery. Is that correct?

Thank you for all your help. It is invaluable to those of us that cannot get to Scotland.

Hi Janet Mitchell MI's"
The Mitchells were a couple who in the 70s went round cemeteries
listing inscriptions pre 1855 from stones
I'm presuming that James and Agnes' children were buried in the Dunfermline (Lays Road)
I don,t know where they are buried but could be there.

I would assume he worked for Dunnikier Estate which is to the north of
Kirkcaldy
I located this Headstone in  Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Cemetery

1855 To the Memory of Thomas SMAILS
for nearly 50 years Game Keeper
and Esteemed Servant at Dunnikier
Died 11.2.185 aged 76
Also to this wife Lilias MacKay who died 12.10.1860 aged 83

Dear Norrie,
That is absolutely fantastic! Dates and confirmation where Thomas worked and that he was 'esteemed'. Plus, Lilias' death date.

Now looking for Lilias parents - John and Lilias Mackie - they were married in Dunfermline on 2 April 1774. So we're looking for death dates after 1780 I think but before 1841 - because can't find them on the census.

Also looking for a Margaret (Philps) WILLIAMSON (married to James, grocer) sometime from 1793-1840 (actually I think she died before 1820). We are still not sure if she is the first wife of James Williamson (Kirkaldy Grocer who died in K. 19 Mar 1832 and was at that time married to Euphemia Stuert).

Thanks for any help you can give.
