1841 Census
« on: Wednesday 08 June 11 17:59 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find Joseph Burton born 1840 in the 1841 census. The 1891 census indicates that he was born in Westminster, Wilton Street.

Hi Manchester

So far I have tried and failed to find Joseph in 1841 - however was wondering whether you can provide any further details?

Parents - Occupation - Marriage - Children

I cannot find him in 1891 perhaps you could post this reference -  although in 1881 there is a Joseph Burton Woods b 1840 Westminster wife Sarah T Woods and then in 1901 there is a Joseph Burton Woods b 1839 Westminster with wife Ellen Woods - is this him?

Regards

Z :)

Burial 18th Feb 1874 of William Wood - Abode 42 Philip St - 12 yrs - Parish Battersea St Mary Wandsworth

and on the same page at the same address is ............. and also the baptism address shown for Jane, Robert Harry and Travina

Hi again

Guess who ;D

To finish ...................

I haven't been able to locate Joseph in 1861 however there is this that could be looked into:-

1861 RG9 137 90 17 - Civil Parish Islington - Her Majesties Convict Prison Pentonville
J B prisoner unmar 19 Middlesex Westminster - Lab

Not sure when the name Burton was introduced but maybe this could be the reason for a slight name change?

I also note that in 1841 there is an Ann Burton living in this household - could just be coincidence but maybe worth looking into.

Possibly the marriage certificate of Joseph and Ellen White 1884 might offer a few more clues and may be able to confirm or unconfirm (is that a word :-\) the above?

And I still cannot find a marriage between Joseph and Sarah T ??? Although the birth certificate of Travena Sarah Woods Freebmd Mar 1869 Dist Hackney Vol 1b Pg 408 should give you the maiden name of Sarah.

All the best

Z :)

Hi Manchester

Have come across this and found it rather interesting, and thought that it may help with your research ...

William John Burton Banks - Birth date abt 1837 - Christening date 26 Feb 1837 - Christening Place Dartford Kent - Parents John Banks and Jane

His age and place of birth seem to tie in nicely with census details shown for William Banks b1837 Dartford Kent son of Jane and stepson of John Woods ......

Open once more to supposition unfortunatley - but could Burton have been the maiden name of Jane who then went onto marry John Banks and then a John Woods? And in 1841 is Ann Burton the mother of Jane? And might also explain the middle name used by Joseph.

A little bit more for you to think about ;D

All the best

Z :)

To Add:- http://cityark.medway.gov.uk - baptism is amongst the Parish Information Online - Dartford Holy Trinity 1561-1984 - Register of Baptisms 1833/1849
