Surname Interests: REA/RAE/RAY
« on: Thursday 28 April 05 14:43 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for data on REA/RAE/RAY families in Dumfriesshire during the 17th century. I have read that the name has origins here in the 13th century. Any help appreciated.

Hi I too am looking for info on Rae. My great Grandmother's name was Thomasina Rae and she married  George Irving in Dryfesdale in 1823.

The only reference I can find to her is in the 1851 census when she appears to have been living with her Grandmother Elizabeth Scott in Carruthertown.

Is there any further information on her.

Thanks
Margaret

I don't have any data on that period, Margrace, but if you try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you can find many records from the 1820s. It's a pay site, but quite reasonable. I recommend searching the Old Parish Records, as they go back to 1553. The Statutory Records only go back to 1855 and the census records to 1851. Good luck.
