Jones / Mariner marriage Upminster
« on: Sunday 05 June 11 15:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
I  am hoping to find more info for a marraige between Theodosia Jones and Magnus Mariner in Upminster in 1791. From what I can establish there was just one church St Laurence in 1791.
The Essex Record Office points to this being the source:

Reference Code    D/P 117/1/4
Dates of Creation    1754-1812
Extent    1 volume
Title    [Marriage register]
Date From    1754
Date To    1812

I wondered if anyone might have access to either the ERO or the marriages register for St laurence please?

Hi there!

I am a 9th generation descendant of Magnus Mariner (down from William's side who was the father of George who is my ancestor) and was wondering if there were any pictures available of the marriage record that notes the matrimony of both Magnus and Theodosia? I would really appreciate any help offered, thank you very much.

Regards,

Jordyn.

Hi Jordyn
This a very old post,as you can see from my post this had not had any replies so as I was going to the ERO I did the look up,well the world has moved on and the parish records are online now for Eseex,it is pay to view but if you have a number of things to look up is a lot cheaper than going to the ERO at Chelmsford,of course if you do go there are original records like wills and the like to view,I suppose you might be able to contact Indigogirl who started the look up,I wish you well in your search.

Thank you so much! I am based in New Zealand so physically accessing them is a little difficult for me but if they are online, that definitely makes it much easier to pay for than having to pay for an airfare :) I hope Essex parish records are easy to locate, fingers crossed! Again, thank you so much!

Also, if you happen to have the web address for the Essex records, that would be fantastic but if not, this has still been very helpful in locating bits and pieces of my ancestor's family. THANK YOU!

Hi well if you google Essex Records Chelmsford their web site explains things, but the cost is £10 for 24 hrs and £20 for 7 days, the web site is SEAX,i thought you might be some distance away,as I say before it was possible to access the parish records on line I used to do look ups at the record office, now well people like yourself can look the records up,you can download the images,it is best if you know where you want to look for records, get a map of Essex so if you look at a parish and find nothing then you will know the nearest other parishes to look up,it will not take you long to work out that some of the parish records have deaths, bap, and marriages in so there might be 120 images but by looking at whats in the records you know that you need to go to at least the 70th image before you get to marriages,I am sure you will work it out.

When you are looking for records, you might get a registration district rather than a town. You can Google 'registration district of ...' And type in the town/area. It will give you all the parishes that would relate to the district you are looking for. Between this and having another tab open with a google map of the area you are looking for, it will help you to find what you are looking for. Some of the records on SEAX go back to the 1500s!
Jamiesons, Martins and McGonigals of Coleraine, Londonderry
and
Cullens, Grahams and Challenors of Dublin county and city.

Oh my goodness, thank you very much. It's a little difficult for me to get my head around this system of districts with registrations, I've been looking at the numbers with a blank face until having just read your post and now I think it should be a little easier. Fingers crossed a Hobbit can get the hang of it :)
