Hi Sandra,

Do you have a source for this -

marriage gives parents of Leonard Barrett

Leonard Dobbin Barrett 1836 - marriage 5 July 1862 - Philadelphia Pennsylvania - aged 26 years.
Roman Catholic -    Church of the Evangelist
Father John Barrett Mother Jane Barrett - Spouse Frederick A Rutledge.

Trying to find evidence that the good captain's middle name was indeed Dobbin, and also some evidence that those are in fact his parent's names.

You posted this earlier in the thread by the way.

Thanks,
Barry

Made a note the other day, that is thought Leonard attended school in Ireland until his tenth years, he ran away to sea as a stowaway. Landed Wilmington North Carolina. Secured work with a farmer and successful concealed his identity for several years.

1850 he was at 1507  67 th Avenue Philadelphia.

No sources for the above (anc tree) - the information probably came via his daughter Frederica who married Captain Christopher George Carr. South Fifteenth Street Philadelphia PA. Sailed for England and made home there.

We cannot always rely on information given in census but the 1900  - South 15th Street Philadelphia - interestingly says Leonard was born in Ireland and both parents born Ireland.

Another line of enquiry may be to check where the following information comes from which is on anc tree.

John Barrett 1815–1840 born 1815 - County, Tyrone, Northern Ireland
died 1840 - Dundalk, Ireland (or Tyrone, Northern Ireland)  - died of consumption.
