What or Where Is Glass House
« on: Friday 03 June 11 20:43 BST (UK) »
Could anyone on list tell me where Glass House is. I am helping a friend with her research and this name or place came up
All I know is that it has records for everyone in England.

Any help greatly appreciated as I am thoroughly stumped on this one.

I think that you must be mistaken .
I'm not aware of any such place.

There is a Glasshouses, but it has no records such as you refer to.

What sort of records? All the birth, marriage and death records under the registration acts are held at Smedley Hydro in Southport, other records are held at the National Archives at Kew.

In Colchester the Glass House is the name of the Military Prison.  So the person must have been in the Military Prison.  It is still known as that in the 1990's.  Used to live near it and saw the poor prisoners scared stiff getting out of the train at Colchester.

If you post where this name came up we might be able to help.  I only know the term "glass house" as slang for military prison.
