1841 Census John Briercliffe
« on: Thursday 02 June 11 08:26 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm hoping someone maybe able to help me please.  I'm looking for a
John BRIERCLIFFE or BRITCLIFFE on the 1841 Census.
I'm not sure of John's details re birth or age or death but someone has told me that a JOHN BRI-----ITT is entered on the 1841 Census exactly as
that.  His wife Hannah Briercliffe (spelt Bricliffe on 1841 Census) is living with one of their daughters Elizabeth in the Deansgate/Salford area in Cumberland St.  John is not at this residence though.

John Briercliffe and Hannah Belfield were married in Rochdale in 1825 no ages given though for either of them.

I did find one John Briercliffe born in 1802 to James and Hannah Speakman in Manchester (This James was a farmer).  I haven't been able to find an exact birth for John Briercliffe though as I don't have anything else to verify it with.

I'm still trying to find his death after 1833 the family were living in the Salford and Manchester areas at this time.
John and Hannah's daughter Charlotte died in 1834 in Manchester ( Registered at the Collegiate church Manchester) details of this particular John would be very much appreciated.  Kind regards Dianna

I think Hannah's age on the 1841 census might have provided some guidance as to John's expected age.....

There are none that have been transcribed on Ancestry in the manner you describe.  There are two Briercliffe's but born far too young to be married and this one.

The marriage gives his address as Cheetham Street and hers as Smallbridge.
Cheetham Street still exists in Rochdale as does the area of Smallbridge.
So I checked Rochdale baptisms nothing for John Briercliffe , also checked John's b Rochdale 1802 +/- 2 years , a few Breirley/Brearley's  but nothing similar to Briercliffe.

It looks like Hannah was baptised 28 Dec 1806 daughter of James Belfield and Fanny of Smallbridge. Fathers occupation weaver.
I think Hannah is living with daughter Elizabeth and family on the 1851 n Fleet St.Salford , described as widow year of birth abt 1807 . Very bad image hard to read.

Can find no burial for John , just 1 death in Salford after 1837 but is a bit late as 1859. I will have another look around to see if I an find anything further.
