I decided to check the 1861 to see if James was single at that time so I just searched on James b Cambridge** 1834 + - 2yrs then looked for dodgy spellings of Bowman
They don't come more dodgy than Bowruao !!

I must admit given how many records were returned for "James Bowman", "James Boman", etc. I would never have considered searching using his given name, date and place of birth alone - the prospect might have been too daunting. Next time, I will give it a try though.
