1851 Census - GOODWIN -1st Battalion Grenadier Guards

Would it be possible to get a look-up please for James GOODWIN in the 1851 census? He was a Private in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. I am particularly interested in his place of birth.

I'm wondering if that's the right James Goodwin. 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was stationed at The Tower at the time of the 1851 census.

Can't see him in the Tower garrison in 1851 (HO107/1546) but it's not easy to read

Hi Ron

You need to say when you have him definitely in the 1st Bn Grenadiers. Men enlisted in the regiment and not in the battalion, so he could have been in 2nd or 3rd Battalion in 1851. Men also transferred between regiments - so he may have been in another regiment, or it may have been before he enlisted.

I have now found other sources saying the 1st Battalion was at Windsor in April 1851

Thank you all for your interest and replies. I must admit I don't think it is my man. The information I have is from the birth certificate for his son Frederick James on 11 January 1851, registered by the mother in Hemingford Grey, Hunts, on 30 January 1851. Certificate clearly states "Private in 1st Batal. of Grenadier Guards". His wife, Ann, is staying with her son at her parents house at the time of the 1851 census.

Hello, I have a similar situation - got a marriage at the church in Trafalgar sq. late 1850 with John Hunt living in St george's Barracks, then 6 months later his wife gives birth to my gg grandfather and lists him as '1 battalion grenadier guards' - but they never live together again!
Did you ever find out where they were in 1851?
After reading so many newspaper reports about bigamist/deserting husbands from the army though I'm starting to wonder whether he ever intended to come back! Poor Sarah Ann his wife is a Charwoman and has to put my gg grandfather with family members! I have another possible daughter for her though so hopefully it may give his whereabouts for that, but it's in 1855 which helps even less for 51 and 61!
