Hi Paperspast
I would be interested in any extra tips you have for searching and saving images
I for one have wasted loads of time saving images then cropping to get the bit I want in a long column

only recenty I discovered the little circle that shows when you drag across an image, and that if you click copy you often only get the bit you selected..other times if you can click and drag off to the tight you get the "blue" selection for the bit you want...all this confusion will be clear to those who have tried the different copying options

What are the best ways then to coy the bit you want in a column

Also has papers past considered a search with in a search, or some other options
eg I'm searching miners names..and you get sometime hundreds options, I'd love an option that said
eg
"X Miner" Thames..so must have name and Thames anywhere in article

Many thanks
Althea

;) .... I've wasted enough paper to make another few publications while printing  ;D

As I've said before, I always seem to take the scenic route with everything, so excellent point Althea!

Hi Althea,
Can you share more details? I've yet to find the 'little circle'.

I copy from the OCR computer generated text so I can add to text, and edit, but always keen to learn more options.
I'm using Firefox browser, Windows 7, so not sure if that makes a difference.

I can only find the circle if my cursor is on the column, then left click mouse and drag.

Yes, the search facility leaves a little to be desired.  What about implementing 'Boolean searching' with +, - and NOT terms.  The - are particularly important.

In addition to this 'Field searching' may help in the instance that Althea is talking about.  Many of the libraries use this in their SPYDUS catalogue system.
ie Choose one search term, get the results, refine them using another search term etc.

'Truncation searching' or 'wild card searching' (not just at beginning or ends but in between as well) would also be a bonus, especially when papers made mistakes with spellings of peoples names, addresses etc.

It's great to have the PapersPast resource but to have to then still search through hundreds of pages of results (no exaggeration) which is the way it is at present, is mind-numbingly boring.

Oh and while we are on the topic of improvements, PapersPast indicated to me last year that you were bringing in an user editing facility similar to the National Library of Australia system, this year.  Any ETA on that?

Thanks for hearing me out.  I do appreciate having this thread to communicate requests and ideas directly to Paperspast - it's a breath of fresh air (especially compared to the bureaucracy of other government departments).

Yes as KHP found
If you left click somehwere in the column, then drag up and release over the part you want, then right click copy
I have found you can sometimes just get a copy of what you want to paste into a document like WORD.
Crop of extra and resize as needed.

Other times if you Left click and drag across the column you find is broken into sections,so you can just copy the bit you want..at either of the above steps you can choose to save an image if preferred

Bye
