Passover surname in Norfolk
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 20:13 BST (UK) »
:D

I don't know if this the right place to post but here goes! I am doing research on my tree and have come to a bit of a dead end with my 4x great grandmother on my maternal side.

Susan/Susannah Passover born 1804 in Barney Norwich

Married Richard Beldling Colls

Died 1890 in Fakenham Norfolk.

I have discovered a Mary Passover baptised 25/10/1769 Bale Norfolk.

Jane Passover who died 05/03/1866 in Barney Norfolk

Is anyone else researching this surname?  B

Not a name I'm ever come across before but FreeReg shows the following who seem likely to be Susan/Susannah's family:

Robert Passover b.19/8/1807 bp.23/8/1807 Barney, Norfolk son of William Passover and Elizabeth Olley.

John b.3/3/1810   ditto

Scopes (One-Name Study - Worldwide)
Suffolk - Grist, Knights, Bullenthorpe, Watcham
Scotland - Spence, Horne, Cowan, Moffat
London -  Monk

Don't walk behind me, I may not lead.   Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.   Just walk beside me and be my friend.

Think this is a corruption of some other surname but not quite sure what.

I noted a James Pucifer bc.1821 Barney living in Stody, Norfolk (1851)

1841 Census - Stody, Norfolk.

Elizabeth Porcifer     60
James Porcifer  20
Elizabeth Porcifer 20

ref. HO107 - 776 - 41 - 1 - 12

So, Elizabeth senior would appear to be the wife of William and probably now a widow - James son born Barney was newly married.

A James Purcifer married an Elizabeth Daverson Mar.1840 Erpingham district, Norfolk.

FreeReg also shows an earlier baptism to William and Elizabeth:

William Pagsover b.4/4/1802, bp.6/4/1802 Briningham, Norfolk son of William Pagsover and Elizabeth Olley.

Think you are going to have fun (?) with this surname.

Quite a few baptisms for children of William and Elizabeth under Purcifer at Barney on FreeReg which you can see for yourself but the one you need is there:

Susanna b.10/11/1803, bp.12/11/1803 Barney, dau. of William Purcifer and Elizabeth Olley.

Annette

You are a gem! I had picked up a couple of these but will now pusue it with a little more confidence. I had Henry born 19/08/1807 baptised 23/08/1807 with parents William and Elixabeth (nee Olley). And you are so right it is fun, trouble is you have to restrict yourself to the time that you spend or you find yourself totally engrossed.

Thank you again.

Pucifer here I come
