Slaters/Slaughters of Oxfordshire/Berkshire
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 17:56 BST (UK) »
Hi

this is what I have so far:

1. Great-grandfather - William Slater b 1878, Yattendon, married Amy Martin, 1891 in Brentford.

2. G-g-grandfather - William Slater b 1842, Benson, married Catherine, 1867.

3. G-g-g-grandfather - Richard Slaughter b 1811, Benson, married Mary Carr.

4. G-g-g-g-grandfather - Thomas Slaughter b 1790, Newington Berrick, married Mary Nicholls and then Sarah  P.

The 1891 census has 2 & 1 living at Ewelme Park Farm, Swyncombe and the 1901 census has them living at Ambrose Farm, Nuffield. Less than a mile from each other and very near Henley.

If anyone has any more information regarding the above it would be gratefully received.

Regards
Sue

Hi,

I can't find the family in 1841 but Thomas is with Sarah in 1851 I think this could be Thomas's second marriage,

Thomas SLAUGHTER     Sep Q 1847     Wallingford    6  353
Sarah Priscilla WHITEHORN

Daisy

Hi

Yes you're right. I've had the info that he'd married a second time to a Sarah P, but that was all I had. Interestingly I've found Thomas' name with 3 of his children and 2 of his grandchildren in a list of burials at Benson St Helen's church but also on the list was Priscilla d. 1869 and I have no record of her birth. D'you think this could be Sarah as she would have been exactly 60 and I do have Thomas living on his own at the 1871 census?

Hi,

I think that death is likely to be Sarah considering the registration district.

I wonder if she had been married before as she would have been about 36 when she married. I think the best option would be to get the marriage cert. to find out.

Hi,

You don't sound dim, we were all beginners once :) and with this hobby you can still learn something new everyday :)

You can get BMD certificates here,

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

or you could order it from the local record office which I think would now be Oxfordshire,

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

give them a ring to check if they hold the old Wallingford BMDs

Let us know how you get on :)

Regards,
Daisy
