RAF Accident/Death 1998 'COMPLETE'
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 14:00 BST (UK) »
Not too sure if this should even be on this board, but cannot see where else to post.

My cousin Sqn. Ldr. William Michael Vivian, was killed on a 'routine training flight' with 2 other Tornados off Flamborough Head, on Tues. 16 June 1998.

I have a copy from the BBC Website at the time and have found a report on a UFO (yes!!!) website about this crash.

I have tried contacting RAF Coningsby, but as I am not n.o.k., they will not offer any help.  What I have been trying to get is a copy of his death certificate, I have looked at the death records on Ancestry etc., and their is nothing on there.  Now I know that of the 2 pilots who were in the Tornado, only 1 body has ever been found, would this be a factor and that the death cert. was issued but not available to the public?
Any suggestons or advice would help.  I am in touch with his brother, but as they were 'estranged' he only knew about the
death by chance when watching the telly at the time.  So no help there really.
UPDATE:
Schooner:   really did not need the Nick Pope site, do not think that that will help, have a very sceptical attitude to UFO's hence the exclamation marks.
Nanny Jan: Many thanks for the death ref - 'wonders why it is registered as a death abroad when it happened in the UK?  Would never have considered looking there'  Thanks again.

UPDATE 2:  kyt - many thanks for that link - a very interesting report and explains a lot.

The official accident report for the crash:

http://www.ukserials.com/pdflosses/maas_19980615_ze732.pdf

The reference on the UFO site to the aircraft *disappearing* (the link to which I won't bother posting here) from radar is no surprise when the aircraft was in a steep dive.  Afraid it's another case of adding 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5!!

K

EDIT: BTW as the crash occured outside the limit of British Territorial Waters, that may explain why he is registered as "abroad".

Hi Plummiegirl

Don't even know if you use this chat forum anymore but I cam across your post whilst searching for information about Bill. He was my Godfather. So so sad.

What have you learnt?

Kind Regards

Chelsea

danuslave - I have pm'd Chelsea twice since her post sadly her inbox is full and my 2nd message was not accepted.
I come on this site daily and get notifications for my threads etc. so Chelsea need not worry about my not replying.. In fact I am very excited about contacting her.

Oh well its now just a case of waiting.

Cheers

Hi Christine

I think it's more likely that the emails are bouncing because Chelsea has only made 1 post! You have to make 3 (or sometimes 2!) to be able to use the PM system.

She hasn't been on since her original post, so I think you're right about just a case of waiting.  How frustrating for you   :o ::)

Yeah, I guessed as much.

But I did notice that she only joined the day she contacted me.

It is a shame as I am aslo in touch with her godfathers 2 siblings.

Me and my 2 cousins were a lot older than William (Billy).  And I sadly never knew him.

Oh well I will just sit back and wait.

CHELSEA,  CHELSEA where art thou? ;)
