Hi there,

Robert C REED, aged 70 at Mosman in 1927, NSW BDM d.c. registration 19864, giving mother's name as Agnes T.

This would give birth year of around 1857, suggesting to me that he arrived on different voyage to Isabella M and her siblings and mum.

That d.c. should show how long he had been in the colonies, and may help determine when he and/or his father came to NSW.

It is likely that the R C Reed from the Sands directory of 1885 would be same Robert C Reed at Mosman in 1927.

Perhaps Agnes was a widow when she came to NSW in 1878.

Cheers,  JM

 ;D
1903 NSW electoral roll,  North Sydney, polling at Mosman's Bay
REED, Agnes Fassie (definitely "F" on this roll), Tasso, Raglan St, at her domestic duties
REED, Florence Agnes, Tasso, Raglan St, also at her domestic duties

Sorry, still cannot confirm if Anges Fassie's husband was in NSW

Just that section, do NOT attach the whole cert, that's against RChat rules

Perhaps a snip would certainly help though so we can help decipher of course  ;D

Now, this makes it clear I think that Agnes was either a widow or in some way estranged from ROBERT. His name is not mentioned.

It is a marriage notice the same year as ISABEL, 1887, regarding a son of AGNES REED's

ADDING ISABEL's marriage is announced in the same column!!

Family details are helpfully given!

I am very interested !  I have the Rev FOX  of Coota as a possible side twig on one line of my tree.

(My NSW families go way back, I am 7th generation on one parent's side, and 5th on the other's,)

Well found Sue

Agh found (from my NSW seafarer forebears notes, and the online link)

1822  The 'Sydney Bethel Union Society' (as it was known initially) was formed on 23 December on the initiative of Rev. William Cowper, an Anglican Chaplain of the Colony of New South Wales (later Archdeacon of Sydney) to provide 'religious and secular instruction and social recreation to seamen of all nations visiting the port of Sydney.'

1886 To ease financial problems, Bethel House was sold and a house in nearby Lower Fort Street rented as a residence for the Chaplain.   http://www.sydneybethelunion.com.au/milestones.htm
