looking for Ebenezer FOX

Ebenezer Fox came to Australia and married a Ann Terrey 12 September 1876.
I think he came from England did look on the familysearch.org found a
Ebenezer Fox christened on 21 March 1852 baptised at Westleyan Methodist,
Kirkgate, Bradford, York, England.    Parents were David Fox and Mary Ann Evan.
When did he come to Australia?   Also what means were used to bring him here?

Marriage between Ebenezer Fox and Anne Terrey took place in District of St. Leonards, New South Wales, as stated in 1876.  Reg#1716.

Ebenezer Fox died 1928, in District of Rockdale, Reg#17688, parents listed as David and Mary Ann.

Hi there,

If they were not born in the colonies, then they came by ship, however not all the passenger lists are extant, and even when they are, sometimes the lists only have the initials for the given names, or worse still, only give "X" number of emigrants in steerage.


There's at least two very good online free to search site for arrivals to NSW, and of course NSW was one of six colonies so each colony was responsible for its own administrative procedures.

Those two online sites are linked at the RChat resources board, but here they are again

A possibility

David Fox, 41, Mary Fox 35, Elizabeth Fox 16, David Fox 13, Ebenezer Fox 4.

Arrived 25th November 1856 on the "edward Oliver".

David's father (David) was dead but his mother, Mary was alive at Bradford.

Mary's father, William & mother Anne, mother at Bradford not sure about her father.

David & Mary were Wesleyan and could read & write.

Ebenezer was born at Bradford.

David Fox, 35, Woolcomber.
Mary Ann Fox, 30.
James Fox, 16.
William Fox, 14.
Elizabeth Fox, 10.
David Fox, 8.

The David Fox on the "Edward Oliver" in 1856 was also a woolcomber.

Children other than Ebenezer are:
Elizabeth, 16, domestic servant, native of Temple Cloud, Somerset
David, 13, labourer, native of Launceston, Cornwall
Mary, 3, native of Bradford, York

Father David is native to Canterbury, Kent.
Mary Ann is native to Shepton Mallet, Somerset, and her parents details on the shipping record also have their surname - EVANS.  Relative in the colony for Mary Ann is a brother William EVANS per Winifred.

This appears to be mistake, her brother's name was James:

Martha EVANS, 23, native of Bradford, Yorkshire, parents John and Mary URQUHART, father at Bradford, neither read nor write
William, 3, native of Bradford, Yorkshire
Sarah, 1, native of Bradford, Yorkshire
No relatives in the colony.

I think it is James and Martha's marriage at Bradford in 1851 with Martha's surname as HACKETT
