Can't help you with the Street Number - know the Maternity Hospital was in Essex Street. I had two sons born there in 1970 & 1973. No I wasn't old (only 21yrs in 1970). I was married, and no poorer than most young ones!! I'm sure you'd find something online (google it) about this old place.
Cheers, Valsgirl (Brisbane Australia - or I'd check it out further for you)

Thank you Benfuschia,
From the Family Group Sheets sent in for a Reunion, most people said 56, some 16, and a few just Essex Street.

Wow an enormous spot of luck that you wonderful people have been discussing Essex Maternity Hospital in Christchurch. I was adopted & born in what I thought was was SX hospital. My brother said I was born in a bread factory! Now i understand thanks to you people. So I was born in Essex Maternity hospital for single mothers & across the road there was a bread factory!

I have recently returned to New Zealand and Christchurch after 30 years. I am writing a book & had some missing detail i.e.; place of birth. If anyone knows where in Linwood this hospital was please let me know.

Thank you again, I can't tell you how much I am smiling right now!!

Susie
