Glenada, Newcastle: 1927

Hi,

A relative, Gertrude HENRY, wife of Hugh F. HENRY,  died in 1927 in "Glenada Newcastle" and is buried in Belfast City Cem.

I'd like to find her address in Newcastle prior to her death.

Please excuse me for my ignorance about Co Down. I live in Canada and have only Google maps, etc to find places. But I can't locate Glenada, Newcastle.


Is Glenada a village or suburb of Newcastle?
Which city directory would I use to lookup her address?

Hi,
   Not sure the address in 1927 but in the 1911 census Gertrude and Hugh and their four children were living at 21, Deramore Drive, Belfast. See

Also see http://www.glenada.co.uk/ It may be the name of the house.

The Belfast City Council online burial index lists the address as 'Glen-Ada' Newcastle which indicates it was probably the name of a house in Newcastle.

Yes, Kingskerswell, in the 1911 census, that is the family I'm looking for: Hugh F. HENRY and  his wife Gertrude. After the children left home, Hugh and Gertrude moved to Newcastle.

Yes, Glen-Ada may be the name of a house as you suggested, Aghadowey. Any suggestions on how to find what the street address is? Or is a 1920s (specifically 1927) city directory the best way?

There was a Glenada House Inn in Newcastle in 1842 "a Y.W.C.A. in 1905"-

While there I found reference to "Glenada Terrace" (a  few lines above 'Glenada House') and after googling it, I found this:

Hi Ros3,

There is a building named 'Glenada' on the right hand side as you leave Newcastle for Kilkeel. At present it is a Conference and Holiday Centre. It appears to be building that has been extended in modern times to the right. The older part (on the left as viewed from the road) is built in granite and may have been the original 'Glenada'. I'm not sure who operates the premises. (Tried unsuccessfully to paste a Google streetview link)
