Finding where a relative lived
« on: Friday 27 May 11 18:11 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help please.  My great grandparents lived at Oversland, Boughton, Kent from approx 1920 and a relative has told me that their house was previously an old dairy which was converted into a house some time before they lived there.  The relative has told me stories about the house and I would love to know where it is/was.  But as Oversland is so rural I think it may prove difficult to find and I don't know where to start - maybe old maps?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Annie

Thanks for your help Bearkat, but unfortunately they're not listed.  I think this is going to prove very difficult!
Thanks

You could try looking at old electoral registers.

Have you looked on Google maps - street view?  Their vehicle has found this rural location.

Hi Annie,  :)
Looking on the old census results for Oversland there would appear to be in exsess of 25 dwellings including one pub a House called Oak House and an Oversland Farm. I would suggest, as you think the property was once a dairy, you look at buildings close to or at the farm location . I am sure a dairy would have been one of the farm buildings.

Thanks Rog that sounds hopeful but - I know this is probably a really silly question - how do I search the census returns to find addresses?  I do subscribe to Ancestry so can search the 1901 census but it doesn't recognise Oversland.  I've no idea how to do this.
Thanks
