Help With Australian Marriage

Hi,
   I am looking for the marriage of a relative. Her name was Stella Margaret Haveron, born Portsmouth, England, 1920. Mother, Margaret formerly Carr, father Charles Haveron.
   Some knowledgeable people on a local board found her embarked on a ship, Orbita, leaving Liverpool and bound for Melbourne, 20 October, 1946.
   I have no knowledge of whom she married but she was known to have lived in Melbourne or its suburbs.
   The marriage, I would estimate was between c 1947 and the mid 1950s. My only proof of her marriage was a wedding photo that hung on my Gran's wall. She was registered as a Miss when she left England so, she must have married in Australia (Melbourne).

Victorian marriages are only available until 1942, there is no death in VIC registered for her up until 1985 with the father's name of Haveron or mother's name of Carr. She possibly lived past 1985 & could also still be living.

Hi there,

The National Archives of Australia's online index of passenger arrivals (an on-going project) has confirming information re her embarkation on 20 Oct 1946 .....  indexed as arriving into Melbourne, Victoria Australia ex the ORBITA out of Liverpool.  Arrival date 21 Nov 1946.

I agree with Merlin's comments that she may well still be living. I have living relatives who were born before this lass .....

Each state and territory in Australia is responsible for its own registers for BDM records, and there are closure periods eg in NSW births 100 years, deaths 30 years and marriages 50 years.

Hi Merlin and majm,
   Thank you both for your help. Looks like a lengthy search through the newspapers, keep me going through the weekend, maybe the week.

   There is every possibility that she traveled to Australia to get married: all I know is that she did get married. There is also a possibility that she is still alive, going off her age: most relatives have died out this end and I know of no contact with her with those that are left. Thank you both again.
