Hi there
Had a good look around for a father for James but finding it very hard.
I did find notice of his wedding in January 1857 to Jane Acton.
He was born in Lutterworth, Leicestershire in 1825.  Which makes him
32 when he was married and just wondered if this was a second marriage?
He died back in Lutterworth, in 1902 aged 77 years.
I looked at other James born in Lutterworth as most name their children
after themselves.  I did find a James Sharp born in Lutterworth, christening
was 7th April 1805 and his parents were called John and Jane.
I looked for your James in 1851 and  I think he is married to a Mary and
their children are called John and Jane. They are living at Ashby de la Zouch.
Maybe after the death of his wife Mary he moved to Stoke on Trent?
If no one else can find James father you may have to buy the wedding
certificate and it should also tell you whether he was a bachelor or a
widower, which could confirm what I have mentioned.

Hope you find him soon

Thanks for your quick reply
I think you might have the wrong James as far as the death goes as I have him in the 1891 census living at Nantwich Cheshire. Then I have a record of death for Dec 1891 in Nantwich.

I was thinking his father might be a William as James named his first son William.
You know what its like when you have all the wee pieces but just need the one to join them all together
Many thanks Anna

James and Mary SHARP (with children Jane and John plus a few more) are still living in Derbyshire in 1861, so that must be a different couple.

According to the 1861 census, there were 2 men named James SHARP(E) born in Lutterworth c1825, which doesn't help - "yours" was a brickmaker, and moved to Staffordshire, then Cheshire as far as I can see, while the other (who married an Elizabeth) was a groom/ostler and stayed in Leicestershire.  However, I can only spot one of them prior to 1861....   :-\

Thankyou
I also can't find him before 1851
I might just have to send away for the marriage certificate
It was worth a try anyway
Thanks again for your input
Cheers

If you're lucky someone may be able to look it up at the archives or other resources - wait until UK folk get home/online this evening!  Otherwise the cert's the only answer, I think.

I rather wonder whether he's under a different surname (stepfather?) or birthplace pre-1861?  Parents usually know where their children were born, but the children sometimes assume they were born where they grew up, or where silblings were born, for instance.

After your reply I went over the censuses again in case I was missing something.I think I might have found him in the 1841 census .He is recorded as being born in Wilmslow not Lutterworth or just Leicestershire as he has said in all the other censuses. The reason I think this might be him as on the LDS site they have the James Sharp that married Jane Acton as being born in Wilmslow. Also On the censuses Jane Acton said she was born in Wilmslow.
I know it is all a bit of guess work at this stage.
I will wait till the end of the week in case someone offers to help with the look up if not I will send away for the marriage certificate
Thanks again
Anna
