Children of Thomas Brereton and Ann

Looking for the baptisms of following children of Thomas Brereton and Ann

Randle, Thomas, Joseph, James, Hannah and Ann.

My possible marriage for Thomas and Ann is 1786 in Barthomley, it is possible that all children were baptised there, however Thomas died in Haslington Cheshire in 1820.

If there are any marriages for the above children that would also be fantastic, i am trying to see if theyy are my family line.  Which at present starts with Thomas Brereton and Ellen.  Thomas been born around 1793 - 1796 in Barthomley and or Haslington, Cheshire

a Thomas Brereton marries a Charlotte Barnett in 5th January 1793 ,Barthomley,Chester ,Cheshire

could Ann have died and Thomas remarried ??...hence the Thomas babtism in 1796 stating Charlotte as mother ??
and thats why he married in Barthomley...looking at the christenings there are many in Haslington for Brereton...

Hi Allan

I have no idea who is who.  I did like the look of the marrige to Ann Stancar in 1786.  In his will he left things to his wife Ann, so i presume that she out lived him.  Will just check the probate.  the probate show his wife and she eldest son ( i asume eldest) as his executors in 1821.  Thomas died in 1820.  Now Thomas and Ann married in Barthomley and my Thomas was either born or baptised in Barthomley, though that is from Census readings,  and the dates vary a bit.  I will check his age on his head stone and confrim his supposed birth year.  My thomas did marry Ellen Whitmore.  So hoping i have the write Will.  My intuition say yes, just need the proof.........lol.

I have Breretons in my family tree, but the dates look to be a generation out.

Thomas Brereton, born 1726 in Dodleston, Chesire, son of Randle Brereton and his wife Mary (maiden name currently unknown).  He married Ann Hocknell, born about 1736, on 2nd February 1758 in Acton, Cheshire (Familysearch 4008455).

Their known children, born / christened in either Acton or Dodleston:

Mary (born 1759), my 4x great grandmother married Samuel Moulton
Randle (1762)
Thomas (1766)
James (1769)
Joseph (1772)

Although initially it looks promising, Randle is actually quite a popular name in that family, relating back to Sir Randolph (or Randle) who fought for Henry VII and by 1504 was the Chamberlain of Cheshire.

However, its usage does suggest that we share common ancestry (as opposed to the other common names) so happy to help.  I'll have a look at some options coming down from my Thomas and Ann but it may be a  day or two before I can do some research.

Hi Pudding

Wow.  Firstly thanks for your offer of help, that is awesome.

y story actually starts with Thomas Brereton b. 1793 in Barthomley, Cheshire and as far as i can establish he married Ellen Whitmore in 1814, the married i think took place in Barthomley where they had their first 3 children before moving to Haslington, Chrshire.  Ihave most of theinformation going forward from here.

What i have done to try and treace backward was buy the Will for a Thomas Brereton who died in 1821 in Haslington, apparently he was a Farmer, he was married to Ann.  From this Will i got the childrens names, one been Thomas, and i was hoping to prove that the Thomas of this Will was the father of my Thomas.  Sorry that sounds complicated.

So far i have not achieved this.

Will all those same names i wouldnt be surprised if there was a connection.  My mother recons that all the Breretons are connected somewhere.  Thanks again for your help

Hi Rotosis -

Your mother is right!  The 1881 Census showed a total of only 1,243 Breretons in the entire UK, with a significant majority living in or emanating from Cheshire.  Even 10 years ago, only 54 in one million had Brereton as a surname.  Statistically speaking, the low number and location means that we are all related.

Chronologically, any of the three sons of my Thomas and Ann could conceivably be the father of your ancestor.  The original family holdings were around Malpas and Dodleston, roughly 25 miles away from Bartholmey (forgive me, I don't know where you are located so don't know if you are familiar with the area).  Such a distance would not be unreasonable if your ancestor was a younger son of a younger son as he would most likely not have inherited land around in this area and had to go off to seek his fortune.  Cetainly none of it came down to my family!

The Breretons are probably the most interesting of all my family connections so I'm happy to help!

Hi,

I have some of the Brereton family from Haslington.
 Thomas b1793 Haslington married Ellen Whitmore 25/08/1814 Wynbunbury.
8 Children. 1 of them Thomas b 1828 married Elizabeth and had 3 children.
1 of them Thomas b1865 married Alice Ford in 1900.

Does this make sense to you and your tree?
