Missing GREEN children
« on: Friday 27 May 11 03:11 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I am still trying to locate 3 of my GREEN children:
Elizabeth GREEN born unknown. Attended Kauaeranga Girls School in 1884. This is the only record I have of her.

George Roderick GREEN born Jan 1877. The last record I have of him is from the Police Gazette. He was arrested for Larceny in 1892.

Robert GREEN born c1880. According to the Police Gazette he was admitted to the Kohimarama Industrial School in 1891 however I have not found any mention of him in their records.
The last record I have of him is from 1892 when he absconded from the industrial school. He was located in Helensville.

The parents of these children were George and Ellen GREEN/ISHERWOOD and none of the children's births were registered.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Hi Belinda....I haven't found your missing Green children but happy to have a look to see if I can find them.  Can you tell me a little more about them.  For instance, were they born in NZ  and if so where?  Where in NZ did they live?.  What happened to the parents...when did they die?  What was the father's occupation?  Where did the parents marry....here or overseas.  If overseas, when did they arrive in NZ?  Were there any other siblings and if so, where did they live.  Any information you could give would be really great because having common names like Elizabeth, Robert and George Green makes searching very difficult.

Wait to hear from you.

Kind regards....Annie

I believe that this family changed their name to Isherwood, and that the George mentioned as a flax presser is in fact George Green.  This is borne out, I believe, by the fact the the father George Green died with the surname Isherwood.

I found an interesting story on Paperspast which tells of Ellen Clara Isherwood being sent to Jail for three months for vagrancy in 1892.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=OG18920102.2.10&srpos=1&e=-------10-OG-1----2Ellen+Clara--

Read the article....it tells you more!

Does anyone know what happened to Alice Mackay?

Cheers

Hi everyone!!
Thank you for all the help!
I hadn't come across that George Isherwood before(the flax presser).
There is a George Isherwood who married a  Annie Elizabeth Flintoff in 1912. That could be him.

Ellen Clara is my great-great grandmother. I found an article about her and Alice in the NZ Herald yesterday. It had a lot of details in it but unfortunately no mention of George, Robert or Elizabeth.
I came across a mention of Robert Isherwood being sent to an Industrial School when he was 11.

Alice married Alexander Mackay then a John Hadfield in 1918. She passed away under the name Hales Bridget.

Ahhh I love this family and their ever changing names  ;D

George Isherwood, who married Annie Elizabeth Flintoff, sorry to say, is not your man.  If you search the electoral rolls you will find that he is George Ernest Isherwood.  From his digitised WW1 army record on Archway you will find that he was born 1880 Auckland and died 1950.  He and Annie Elizabeth divorced and they both remarried.

Think you should concentrate on Roderick George Mackay.  I have extracted his records from the electoral rolls and happy to send them to you if you PM me your email addy, I will send it to you.  Have also found a number of newspaper reports about your family have put them into a word document.

Cheers for now
Annie
