Passenger List look up please
« on: Thursday 26 May 11 13:56 BST (UK) »
I am interested in an Albert & Ethel Preston who I think emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1920. I think they may have divorced later as I have seen a marriage for Ethel Barraclough to a Charles Jack in 1950 in Newcastle NSW. I think Albert Preston died in 1971 in Newcastle ( his father ws Anthony Preston) . I have not found Ethels death yet ( she was my dads eldest sister!) Ethels parents were Charlotte & James Barraclough.

Do you have an approx date of birth for either of them?

Where did they come from?

I've put his name in to the search and tried 2 years either side of 1920 and it throws up about a 100 of them!

Ahhh was he an engineer?

Hi, Albert Preston was born in 1894 & Ethel Barraclough in 1892. I thought they would have gone to Sydney as they ended up in Newcastle NSW, but that may be them. I'll try & find out Albert's job.
Bye for now, Loma.

Hi Loma,

The marriage in 1950 was for Charles JACK and Ethel PRESTON, not BARRACLOUGH.  This would probably be Albert and Ethel's daughter who was listed with them on the electoral roll at West Wallsend in 1949.  She was a typist.  As she isn't listed in 1943, it appears that she would have turned 21 between 1943 and 1948.

Charles and Ethel JACK were at Downie Street in Newcastle in 1954, and Charles was a clerk.  It looks like his family were from Newcastle as I see other JACKs there and he is listed as Charles Jnr.  Charles Snr. is a miner.

Albert and Ethel lived at Minmi Road in Young Wallsend where he was an engineer's turner and was likely to be working at the coalmines.  They are still there in 1954 which is the extent of my access to electoral rolls.

Debra  :)

Debra, that's really good of you. It has filled in a lot of blanks. I remember being told about a daughter but could'nt remember any details. Dad had all his family stuff in his wallet and it was stolen when he was having radiotheraphy. I did remember laughing at the adress when I was little I think that was Minmi Road. Going to add to my tree now!
