Help reqd please about James Blinkhorn 1742-1795 COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 25 May 11 14:52 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please help me to find the parents names of James Blinkhorn 1742-1795. I found his birth on familysearch, but all it says is born abt 1742, of Ince, Wigan, and it gives his death as 1795.
LancsOPC have a marriage record for him, to Agnes Walsh, in Wigan in 1764, but no parents names are shown. The baptism records do not seem to have been transcribed yet.
Thank you.

This record on the IGI is submitted (not extracted) so dubious. The marriage says that he was 'of Ince' at the time of his marriage which unfortunately does not mean he was born there.

rosie99, thank you for that information. I have never even noticed that there are submitted and extracted records on the IGI. My whole family line is from Wigan, from James onwards, so I have no reason to suspect that James wasn't born in Wigan. It would certainly help if the LOPC had the transcriptions.
Thank you.

The baptisms for All Saints Wigan on lan-opc start at 1813 at the moment

For ealier ones you would have to see the film of the parish registers. It can be seen at Wigan History Shop and I seem to remember they do have a transcript of some of it.

There are burials on lan-opc from much earlier and they give the burial of a James Blinkhorn in 1795 he was a weaver and 52.

Burial: 20 Jan 1795 All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire, England
James Blinkhorn -
    Age: 52
    Abode: Scoles
    Occupation: Weaver
    Cause of Death: Surfeit
    Register: Burials 1779 - 1809, Page 219, Entry 13

Hi Gibel
Thanks for your reply. That is the correct death for him. The only piece of information I don't know about him, is who his parents are, and without that information I can't go back any further.
As I said on the other post, I am too far away to go to see the baptism records in The History Shop. I will just have to wait until LancsOPC transcribe the records.
Thank you.
