Hi John

dob  mis-match    ... So what you miss when its right in front of your face ! ::)

Re possible sisters as detailed by SignalHill:

1896/15960   McGuire    Margaret           Catherine     Patrick
 was Q3 Carterton

1897/6546     McGuire    Myrtle Eileen      Catherine     Patrick Percy Daly
was Q3 Christchurch ??  (hard to read, but definitely no Carterton)

1904/3531     McGuire    Daphne Gwynn   Catherine     Patrick Daly
 was Q2 Dunedin

So if they were sisters, their parents were moving around  8)

John B

Thanks for that

Post Office (and Banks etc) were inclined to move staff round quite a lot so could still be family.   Traces of the family in Otago do not seem like a lifetime location.

- I have used Otago Daily Times and Otago Witness as kick off -   This crosses with my other family interests.

On McGUIRE Forenames

Wondering about "Daly" (Daily Daley) not a very common name and "Clary" not common either

-   Patrick Daly McGUIRE   Louis Phillip Clary McGUIRE   -

Are Daly/Clary  likely to be confused in handwritten records or transcribing ?

Have not seen anything much of Louis (or Lewis) associated with McGUIRE or MAGUIRE in New Zealand sources.   The Forenames I have seen whisper Ireland to me rather than France

Hi Rose,

Are there any more clues ?

Who did your father meet in Port Chalmers ?

Are there any forenames common in your family ?

Are there any other family or surnames or occupations or dates?

Where did the name Louis Phillip Clary McGUIRE come from and how is it connected with the rest of the family. ?

Were the Uncles both definitely  McGUIRE (brothers of your father) or did either have another surname - married to a sister ?

Do you have any idea how long Louis might have stayed in NZ ?

The worldwide 1918 - 19 "Spanish" 'flu epidemic meant that usual burial practices and records were not always followed.

Hi rosemarie  :)

I've been following this thread with some interest.
I note in your introductory piece re: Louis Philip Clary McGUIRE, that you say "there is a possibilty that he went to New Zealand".

I wondered though if you'd looked maybe for Louis travelling to some other country ?

Hi Rosemarie.
Hope you dont mind me dropping in on your messages.
I am trying to find info. on Amelia Rose Mcguire who married my great uncle Frank Donald Warden.
He emigrated to Wellington from London in  1912 and lived in Christchurch.
He died in 1944 and Amelia died in 1977, but cant find where Amelia came from.
Thanks very much,
Babs.
