Sounds reasonable. Can you find the baptisms of the two older children as that might help. Margaret 1868 and Sarah 1870?

I still cant see Louisa/Jane/Joanna Rothwell in 1881 though, or Beatrice.

So do you think that the family were catholic? My Grandmother many years ago said that the family had converted form catholicism to the Anglican church due to the location of schools!!

I guess that literacy levels may have been poor explaining the miss-spelling of names.

Yes these baptisms and marriage took place in RC churches, the first names are often latinicised - if that's a word? but probably literacy played a part in the Foully name since Louisa Jane couldn't write.
