Sorn Burial Records
« on: Monday 23 May 11 20:46 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am trying to find where I can access the burial records for Sorn parish cemetery.  I have contacted the National Archives who pointed me to The Burn's Institute in Kilmarnock, who don't have them.  The Heritage Centre in Saltcoats don't have them either.

I have been trying to contact Sorn Church directly but have been unable to get anyone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Hanan,
I reside in Sorn.
The Church do not have any burial records, these are all held in archives (probably in Ayr).  You might try http://www.ayrshireancestors.com/CemeteryHome.htm .  I note from a quick search that records for Sorn are not readily available on the Internet.

Am unsure what you mean by "Ayr Archives". Would suggest you establish with Carnegie Library, Ayr at

Hi

Thanks for the offer of help.

I am looking for any Wyllie's buried in Sorn cemetery in particular Susannah Donaldson Wyllie who died 19th April 1905 and Elizabeth Donaldson Wyllie who died 20th April 1924.

My grand father would like to visit their graves but does not remember where they are as he was just a toddler when Elizabeth died. Their graves are possibly unmarked as the  family were poor.

I have only had a quick scan of the document but the only Wyllie I could see was an Isabella Wyllie 17/08/1923 - 08/02/1915.  She seems to be the only Wyllie in that grave though.  The lair number is 165.

I have attached the extract from the document

Hi Gibbied,

Thanks for the reply.  Regrettably Isabella isn't related.

I have contacted Carnegie Library but they don't have the records.  They have given me the Ayrshire Archives address and I've emailed them... fingers crossed.  :)

Will let you all know when I find who has the Sorn Records.
