Uniform identification please
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 17:21 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anybody might recognise this uniform.

My Ggrandfather Maurice Connor was born in Carlow( 1886) then moved to Dublin where he married my ggrandmother.  On his marriage cert he states he was an ex soldier.  ( this was 1919)

I have searched archives for his military records but to no avail. Was hoping i may have more luck if i identify his uniform  then possibly his regiment.  With this information i might be able to approach the miliatry archives.

I do know that when he moved to Wales( 1921) he became a member of the gun club, so it could be possible he was in the artillery .

Any advise or help would be much appreiciated
Regards
Rachel

What we need is the best possible scan you can do pse...in high resolution...

What I can say is that this is probably Egypt/Mesopotamia area...He is wearing Khaki Drill (a form of lightweight denim) with a Wolseley (sun) Helmet

Puttees wound infantry style - as RA was still essentially horse drawn I reckon not an artilleryman.

The crop could be a photo prop.

Ah yes...forgot to mention! ;D

Gun clubs are just shooting clubs for pistols and rifles

He had four brothers, Martin, John, William and Thomas, unfortunately not the names you mention.

I have stumbled on Martins records a couple of times myself. Thank you very much for your continued search though.  Much appreciated
