Mary Daly wife of Thomas Healon/Halion/Haylan ect.
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 08:13 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information on Mary Daly who married Thomas Halion before 1814 in Ireland most likely Westmeath, Offlay or Kildare. They had 5 children that I know of Patrick born 1814, Honora and Thomas born 1823, Bridget born 1825 and Mary born 1827.

I have a baptism for an Anne Halion in Jan 1827 to Thomas Halion and Mary Daily in Tubber & Rosemount Co Westmeath sponsors John Daily and Mary Daily. I think this maybe the youngest daughter Mary. This is the only baptism I have found for any children to them.

Thomas Halion snr was transported as a convict to Australia in 1827 (date of trial was 18 July 1826 @ Kings Co).
On 27 Feb 1832 Thomas Henlion (Halion) applied for his wife Mary Daly and 5 children be sent to New South Wales, Australia at the expense of the Government. Mary and the children were residing in the parish of Kill, Newtown Co Westmeath.

On 24 Dec 1834 free passage was granted to Mary Daly and the children. (Thomas Healon).

All 5 children arrived in Australia 18 Dec 1849 on board the Success only his eldest son Patrick was married and his wife and children came too. Mary Daly was not on board and is listed as dead by her children.

I believe Mary Daly died between 1836 and 1849. Any information regarding Mary Daly/Halion would be much appreciated.

The details you are looking for are quite early for rural RC parish records, as many do not start until the 1830s. If you look at the list of sources on IrishGeneaolgy/IFHF (where I assume you found the baptism) you can see that baptism records for the parish you mentioned only go back to 1820, and marriages to 1824.

There's a map of the various RC parishes in Co. Westmeath on the Irish Times website (see here)that might help establish some locations.

Thank you Shane and PM for your replies.

PM I posted all the baptisms to see if any one could connect them. I have purchased many records in my search to find information on this family.
I would love to find out more about Mary Daly as she would have been pregnant when Thomas was arrested and she already had 4 children to look after.
When free passage was granted to Mary & the children in 1834. Mary didn't come was that because she had a child with a clubfoot or did she not want to leave her family and support for a strange country.
The sponsors on Anne's baptism were a John & Mary Daily I wonder if they are related to Mary?
Mary's oldest son was Patrick John Haylan.

Thank you
