Hi Sharon,
As you are new, I think you can be forgiven for the Cardinal sin of giving us no dates to work on.

Do I assume that your Reuban/Reuben Lamper/Lampar was the one who married Caroline Knight in Lancing in 1844, or was he the one born in Sompting circa 1840 who appears on the 1881 census in Bread Street Brighton with Jane and their family?

Alternatively, was he one of those that family researchers on Genes believe was born in Brighton in 1885 or 1855, for even though neither appears on FreeBMD (suggesting a dislike for official registration and a possible preference for partnerships rather than marriages) there are a number of people that have a family interest in these too.

There are already some Lamper /Lisher discussions on this site from an earlier period

but without knowing a rough birth year of the individuals you have an interest in, it is rather difficult for us to direct you to where you may find further info and others who share your interest.

Hello Sharon,
Many of the posts about Lampers were from me! We share the same gg grandfather James. I am descended from his son James who was Reubens brother.

I have managed to contact two cousins (who I did not know about) who live in brighton so we have swapped some information. Let me know what you want to know and I will try to help.
 Best wishes Thelma (Lamper)

Hello Thelma Lovely to hear from you,my mess from you only comes up on my emails, not on my log on account with Roots? finding this very hard to get to grips on here, silly me!
I have a large tree on Ancestry and have been doing research into the Lampers for about 18 months, have you a tree anywhere?
Reuben was my 2x Great Grandad on my mums side, and for some reason he has always drawn me to him.
His and James mother Sarah Hollingdale(1816) was her Mother Mary Ives(1786)? cant find a lot about her? do you have any photos? many of the Lamper family that I was close to have now passed on.
Would love to get in touch and speak.
I live in Peacehaven Sussex.
Nice to have spoken to you and to have a another cousin.
Sharon x

I too am researching the Lampers.  Florence Lamper was my children's Great Grandmother.  Her father was Alfred H Lamper.  I believe he was born before his parents, James Lamper and Hannah Trangmar, were married.  I have been unable to find a birth, marriage or death record for him, nor birth records for the three children, Frank, Florence and Margaret. I have been trying to get a birth certificate so that I can find out the maiden name of their mother, Alice. Any information would be much appreciated. (I am new to RootsChat so am not quite sure how it works.

Sorry Patsy, but do you have a rough idea of where and when any of these were born or married?  Knowing would help narrow down the area of search considerably.
For example, there was a HANNAH FLORENCE Lamper who married in Brighton in 1906.  Was she yours, or does that date and place make my assumption way out?

I have since found a link (also on the Rootschat website) from another Rootshatter who shares your problem.  Perhaps you should read that through first for it certainly seems to provide a few answers. It was written 8 years ago, so if you are lucky, the submitter may have made that all important breakthrough since then.
