hudsonj,
may I ask which workhouse your ancestor died in ? I have a death in 1906 at Clayton Union Workhouse and I have not been able to trace the burial.

Hi Dave, sorry I don't know which workhouse, I don't know much yet about this ancestor and she is rather way down the line!, I expect there will be a list of workhouses in bradford somewhere, the burial record was just headed 'just stated 'burials in the parish of eccleshill, county of york, 1902- then a brief entry of the deceased name, abode (whish is just shown as 'workhouse', date buried age, and the person who performed the ceromny...I assume there was probably a workhouse in the eccleshill area or greengates, bradford although one entry on the list is for Farsley which is near calverley, leeds. soor it is not much help.

thankyou for your last brian, the name of the person from the workhouse was a betsy agar,...benjamin wright is another thread-he is in scholemoor cem, bradford, i have been there today, got dets of birth and death of his baby son off the headston, but sadly, no date of birth forbenjamin...does anyone know if the workhouses would have any records and if so, where held? also, did people just go into the workhouses because they had no money? ...i have  lot of digging to do surrounding betsy agar...i think she is probably in a churchyard somewhere..may even be in idle parish church, but they did not ring me back.
regards,

Right then, this Betsy Agar what do you know about her?
There are Agar named family on the database, you might find some who you have info for.

Just put agar into surname, record type all.

Hi Dobfarm

His name was Joseph Barrett and he died 19 June 1879.  He was married at Bradford Cathedral but I didn't know they still did burials there in 1879.  If you could look it up that would be brilliant thanks!
Sandra

Hi Sandra,

I don't what to make of this ? If its someone (Or even you) who asking or have a grave info?

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

hi sandra, we appear to have moved away from your gravestne enq.
to dave the tyke- re workhouses- check out website-www.workhouses.org.uk/bradford/ then choose'deaths'..there often was no headstone. think some elderly people by 1901 might have gone into the one at daisy hill...the workhouse at idle was at windhill old road, thackley, bfd....
better start a new topic for my betsy agar. tahnks all.

Dobfarm - I hadn't seen that on findagrave but it's definitely the same person.  Looks like someone else is looking for Joseph's grave too!

I've checked out all the Bradford parish burials on Ancestry and Joseph isn't on any of them so I'm wondering if he was perhaps buried at a non conformist chapel.  Still waiting for Ancestry to upload those.

Judy, don't worry about moving onto another topic.  It all makes interesting reading.

Hi Hudson,

Sometimes Charity funded type poorlaw institutions did put a very basic grave tombstones on their late inhabitants. My Great x 3 gran also one in Halifax I looked up for someone had stone epitaphs in none pauper grave sections.
