another possible is Thornton graveyard, Thornton road, bradford.

I think this might be the cemetery situated in Thornton village and is a considerable distance (about 10 miles) from Silsbridge Lane which was/is near the center of Bradford.
Assuming that you had no luck with the suggested avenues of research, there were several non-parochial chapels in the area and some had their own burial grounds. You could Google 'Bradford Churches' and see if you get any leads from that.
West Yorkshire Archive Services have lots of graveyard and burial information but may charge for look-ups.

By 1879 were not most of the parish church cemeteries full and in the preceeding decade Scholemoor was built to cope with this problem.

My guess would be to check out  Scholemoor and Undercliffe cemetery.
My lot lived in Manningham and Ilkley and some are in one of these and others in the other so proximity to residence for place of burial doesn't seem necessarily relevant.

I have just found this document, which is rather useful, it indicates that St Paul's Manningham was doing burials until 1929 (St Paul's is actually just up the road from the area now commonly known as Manningham - in Shipley).
Bradford St Peter (Bradford Cathedral) was doing burials until 1919.

I think I might put this with my favourites, it really does look helpful.

I would have thought that Bradford Family History Society would be able to help - re Bradford burials.
(Appears they have problems with the website at the moment - Membership member advised.)
They do a burial CD where an online search can be done prior to purchase - surname only.

Thanks everybody for your input, and Judy for asking at Scholemoor for me.  I hope you found your Benjamin Wright?

Brian - I believe I've already checked the Bradford FHS site without success but will look again when it's back online.

I emailed Bradford library last year and they checked Undercliffe but he wasn't there.  They suggested he may have been buried in a churchyard so it looks like I'll have to make the trip to Bradford to see if I can find him if he's not on the Bradford FHS site.  Thanks to you all for your suggestions on the churches, it should make my search easier.

Sandra

good luck sandra, yes I found my benjamin, I was lucky, the staff at scholemoor are very good, some depts charge a fiver for looking up gravestones - if you ring scholemoor, they will tell you of any other possibles, also,  1871-1879 and probably further either side of these dates silbridge lane was considered as the 'slum' area of bradford, maybe if people were not able to pay for proper funerals they were interred elsewhere,  other than municipal cemeteries, but you'd need someone with more knowledge than me on that one...  do you have a burial  record for him?..i am researching an ancestor who died in the 'workhouse' and she was buried in the parish of eccleshill in 1902..hope you find him and I will bear him in mind...
