Hi Richard - Happy Xmas and (for that reason) I didn't really expect a reply for a couple of days! Anyway, my email is on my original reply to you if you want to get the full gory details of the Miele family as we know them.
Just from your intro, i've tentatively reconstructed your immediate family:
Salvatore Miele (1891-1977) married Antonia Nardone (1893-1964), almost certainly back in Cassino. They had three known children - all born in South Birmingham, including your dad and uncle.
Salvatore was the second eldest (and only son) of Antonio's known/surviving children born to his first (as yet unidentified) wife in Cassino. Their first child was Maria Guiseppa, born c1889 in Cassino and she had a 'complicated' life. Shawn, also on this thread, is descended from her. Antonio's wife obviously died sometime in the 1890s in Italy, and he travelled to Barnstaple with his single brother, Pasquale to try his luck.
Around 1900/1901, both brothers seemed to travel back to Italy to marry and they came back in time for the 1901 census with their new wives and a third, married, brother Fulipe. Antonio and Benedetta then had two more daughters, Teresa b.1902 and Antonia b.1903. My research is centred on Teresa, as you know.
The Italian side of things is a complete black hole to Shawn and I, although I believe some Cassino records have been microfilmed and are available to view in the Latter Day Saints Family History Centres. Neither Shawn nor I speak Italian though! That's why I jumped in the air when you said your uncle still had connections with the Italian side of the family!
Anyway, send me an email and I can start sending you the interesting stuff!
Cheers, Colin
