Not sure about James who married Evelyn, records give his birth as 1888, so may not be our man

Thankyou all for this information.  As my grandmother and our family are Cornish, we have no idea why she was in Kinston.  She may have been in service.  It is such a shame we did not ask questions when my Grandmother and Mother were alive.  But at least I will have some records to pass on to my daughter.
Once again thanks for all your efforts.

Do you know when your grandmother was born?
Or when she died? Her death details will include an age.

For what it's worth, the James Woodward we have found appears to be the best candidate to be your grandfather.

But that James was married to Evelyn in the 1911 census, and I can't find your grandmother under any of her surnames.

Hi,

Do you have your mother's birth certificate?  It is probably best to work back from that information.
