Woodward
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 11:29 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to resaerch my grandfather, who came from Kingston.  All I know is that he is called James Charles Woodward.  He was born around 1885 and died in 1922, the year my mother was born.  I have found her brith record (436), Kingston registration district.  But that is about all I can find.  Can someone please help in my search for more information on him.
Thankyou

Hi,

1901 census:

Henry is now a widower;  there is another daughter Mary (b. 1896) and the family are living at 9 East Road, Kingston upon Thames.

James is shown as a Baker's Labourer.

Hi Pidgiep,
Possible marriage AMJ 1908 Kinston 2a 853
Same page
James Charles Woodward
Evelyn Ada Wood

This James appears in the WW1 Pension records  with Evelyn Ada as next of kin from Kingston.
They have two other children , James b 1908 and Marjorie Evelyn b 1913.
If you look on www.freebmd.co.uk you can check your Mothers' mothers maiden name.
Saying that , i cannot see a suitable Woodward b 1922 with mmn Wood.

Thanks for the PM - now back to square 1 again?!

According to FreeBMD for your mother's birth in June qtr 1922, her mother's maiden name was Higgs.

Can't find a suitable marriage, though.

Maybe he was married twice?
Or maybe  :o  he wasn't married to your grandmother?

These things happened back then - divorce became easier later in the 1920's
