DESTRUCTION OF FARM PROPERTY BY FIRE.- On Wednesday evening about nine o'clock, news arrived at the Yorkshire fire-engine station of a fire at
Mr. Watson's, Woodhouse Farm, Raywell, the property of Joseph Sykes Esq. The engine under the command of Mr. D. Holmes, with all possible speed, proceeded thither. It appears that the fire commenced in a large barn, containing a great quantity of new wheat, ready for thrashing. The barn which contained a thrashing machine, along with the wheat, and various other implements of agriculture, &c., were completely destroyed before the arrival of the engine. A considerable amount of damage was done to a granary adjacent, containing a quantity of old wheat. Great praise is due to the inhabitants of the surrounding district for the strenuous exertions they used in protecting the various stacks and other property adjoining. The exertions of the firemen were directed to the confining of the disastrous element within the walls of the barn. The fire could be seen a great distance off. Ti is not, as yet, known how the fire originated. We understand the property is insured.
