MS EXCEL - Couple of problems? Completed
« on: Tuesday 17 May 11 19:57 BST (UK) »
For my troubles I am compiling a database of the local church yard burials.
Simple database listing plot No list of occupants and all burth/death information.
1) Some graves list birth as well as death date whilst others give death date and age.
2 entries require me to input age at death, but all I get is a calendar date like day/month/year instead.
2) After completing all the entries I want to print out in landscape, the first 6 columns print out one 1 sheet followed by a space that should include column 7. but column 7 is printed out on a second sheet. (wasting paper)
So what am I doing wrong, 2 entries out of 300 done so far? (only 3500 still to do) :o
(Correction on 3500 entries, should read 3500 graves :( :( :( )

there's usually an option to force the width of the printout to 1 page. Try under the page setup option, and look for the setting 'fit to x pages wide'

Setting to 1page wide by 1 tall. I just get a single column of printed out 'gibberish'.
So I have set to 90% scale to get all information on 1 sheet.
Now the date problem, just want it to show 'age'.

Brian

Would you just confirm Excel version (and Windows while you are about it)?

You should be able to select the format by right clicking on the column the age is entered into, scroll down the options to "Format Cells" then select General.

Thanks for both :)
Looks like both cells set up for date?
Now a happy bunny, anyone fancy a job inputting data ;)

Another way to force Excel to put the date (or any figure) in as you've entered it is to put a single quote in front of the date so it thinks it is script rather than numerals.
