NZ (Auckland) newspaper lookup
« on: Tuesday 17 May 11 15:49 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
my genealogy bug's been dormant a wee while but started sifting thru notes tonight and figured it was time to follow up on a lead...I've hit a dead end so am trying to get in touch with living relatives down one line. My great-grandfather's sister was a Muade LAMBETH (nee THOMPSON) who died 11 Jan 1974 and was cremated in Waikumete Cemetery. I was figuring there might be a death notice in an Auckland paper around that date which might have more information on where her children (plus maybe grandchildren) were living...? Poss. better to PM me as likely to be living names (?)
cheers

Hello.

I see the cemetery listing is for Maud LAMBETH with the Funeral Director listed as FLETCHER BROWN Directors. Though not a firm I know, they appear to still be in business, if a quick name search was acurate. You could try our NZ White Pages to confirm, as I just looked for a web page, and possible email address. [without luck.]

If you can make contact they should hold more records for you.

Fletcher Brown ★ 28 TOTARA AVENUE NEW LYNN, AUCKLAND, 09 8272223.

Actually I just realised - that this person:

http://www.pncc.govt.nz/ServicesAndFacilities/OnlineServices/CemeteryAndCremationDetail.aspx?id=38999

i.e. a Henry William Lambeth d. 23/12/1989

is 99.9% likely to be her son as her husband is here too

http://www.pncc.govt.nz/ServicesAndFacilities/OnlineServices/CemeteryAndCremationDetail.aspx?id=28742

I note the 1989 burial was Robert J Cotton & Sons Ltd and they appear to still be in business - are these people ok with being contacted?

I will cross my fingers as well that someone can look up death notice from 23/12/1989 from a local newspaper............

If you have no luck its worth a snail mail to NZSG northshore who have a collection of the herald notices
for a small donation and stamped envelope you can ask for notices for as many as you like
Details are in teh resource section, or ask and we can give exact address

Hello again Cas.

I've spoken to our local friendly director, who advises that J WEIR & Co were often used by FLETCHER BROWN, to do their embalming, and may have,  when the business closed, obtained their records. Otherwise it could be worth your while, to enquire of a neighbouring business TILTON, OPIE & PATTINSON. Both can be contacted by phone or email.

Funeral Director's records are good, because they retain the contact address for service. That can be a family member, or a Lawyer, which can lead to other information like wills, and probate records etc. which are not published in newspapers, or with on-line cemetery records.

Because of today's privacy issues, be prepared to prove that your enquiry is a genuine family enquiry, after information about, a deceased family member.
