Sorry, the query should have been:

"What was the address for the Newcastle City Hall in 1946?

Thank you.

Not certain, but I would have thought:-

          Newcastle City Hall,
          Northumberland Road,
          Newcastle upon Tyne,
          Northumberland.

Post codes had not been introduced at that time and I think that the various County and Municipal boundary changes also still lay in the future.

Ros3- you've posted this query on Co. DOWN board. Newcastle, Co,Down is a small town- did you mean to post this on Northumberland board? (if so I can move this thread)

Thank you, aghadowey and pb3 for your replies.

The Newcastle City Hall I'm looking for is definitely in County Down.

I've Googled it and come up with 51 Main St.

But on Google maps streetview I see only shops and no city hall.

I appreciate any help!

That's the address for Newcastle Chamber of Commerce (think it's c/o James Wilson the estate agent).

Are you looking for some particular bit of information?

This shows "Newcastle Town Hall"- Central Promanade- the tourist office is located there:

Hi,

In response to aghadowey's question if I was looking for something in particular. (I'm slow in replying because of the time difference, etc - I live in Canada.)

Yes, I'm looking for the Newcastle Co Down business called "Ulster Plant Hire" owned by Hugh Wallace HENRY in 1946. An old letter said that the office was "facing the side of the City Hall". Thus I'm looking for the City Hall to try and locate his business and hopefully, his residence, etc.

Thank you for your interest!

I live just outside Newcastle Co Down.

I think if someone made a reference to "the side of the city hall" they would be talking about Belfast City Hall.

The town hall in Newcastle would usually be referred to as "The Annesley Mansion / Buildings" or "Council Building / Office"
Harte / Hart Co. Armagh and Co.Down
Polland Co Down
Cunningham Newcastle Co Down
Doran Co. Down
