1881 census Robertson

Hi I have got my great grandma Nellie Robertson born 1885 Manchester.  Her mother Jane a widow born 1852 , brothers John born 1874 William born 1877 and sister Jane born 1872 all born in Edinburgh. I have these on the 1891 census Manchester. I cannot find them on the 1881 in Manchester and wondered if they were still in Scotland at that time . I do know there father was called William . Thankyou

There is an 8yr gap in age between William & Nellie.  Do you have Nellie's birth cert showing Jane's maiden name and William's occupation?

hi all  :)

going by the IGI(up to 1875) and the names you have there is a jane lawson robertson(born 1871) and john robertson(b. 1873) with parents william robertson
and jane lyon(both births edinburgh midlothian)

however the IGI does not cover all births in scotland so i may well be wrong  :-\

also found jane lyon born 15th aug 1850 st cuthberts edinburgh midlothian
parents john lyon and jane lawson

Per your other post - there appears to be a problem in establishing which birth reg is appropriate for Nellie

Hi first to answer Carol I cannot find a birth for Nellie so did,nt know her mothers maiden name on her marriage certificate her father William is an upholsterer but by then she was calling herself Ellen.  Then to Ev what is brilliant I went to the library to check if I could link the Jane Lyon marriage to  William Robertson . I have William Upholsterer married to Jane on the 1871 Scotland census , so I looked for Jane Lyon on the 1861 census and bingo her address is the same one as her and William on the 1871 so they must have lived with her parents. My only problem now is finding them on the 1881 census . I now know I have the right family so thanks alot this is a great help.
