Royal Marine on leave
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 02:29 BST (UK) »
This is the only photo of my father during his war years. Sent to Australia to defend it against the Japanese he was based near Newcastle, NSW. He took a troop train to Melbourne to visit friends in Gippsland. Made good use of his shooting skills!

Hi Hilary

Couple from me.

Regards
Caroline

PS Did you by any chance run the pic through a sharpening filter before posting, if so, it might be best if you post an untouched scan for restoring, as it's easier for restorers to work on.  ;)

I didn't do anything to the photo other than use a "resizer" to resize the photo.

As we are on the "other side of the world" I can't get too excited about Manchester United but being an "ethnic pom" I know how you feel, Caroline.

Please scan all photographs at 300-600 dpi.
Please feel free to colour/modify any restores posted by me.
An acknowledgement would be much appreciated.

Most probably the original would have been scanned by an all in one scanner copier printer which produces this kind of fluffy over sharp scan, see this link for more of an explanation.

I hope this helps
