Uhhhm... I cannot fathom the first letter ... so not sure at all.   ???
Just thought I would be able to see another letter that was similar......

Still I am sure someone will help maybe on the deciphering board.

sorry

I don't think it can be Holmes Chapel as that place was known as Church Hulme until 1974, according to Genuki.  Also I agree that it is most likely to refer to somewhere in Leicestershire as the county isn't specified.

1974 is what Genuki says, but I think that's a typo for 1874.

Either way, it was known as Church Hulme at the time this will was written.

dont know if this will work but it is a link (or should be!!) to Gillmorton area

I also think you should put a link to this post on the deciphering / restoration board.

Link works beautifully! but still doesn't tell us where Homes Chappell was. :-\

Grantley, Have you tried emailing Leics Record Office or local historical society?

Luckily I have all the genealogical info from the Will.

Locating "Homes Chappell" may tell me a little more about the lives of my ancestors.

So far, I have only posted my request to this website, on the assumption that it would be an easy answer for those who know Leicestershire.

I do have other stuff to transcribe, that may reveal something.

If after that, if I have no luck, then I will widen my search. I will keep the  Leics Record Office in mind, ta.

Regards
Grantley
