« on: Wednesday 11 May 11 09:50 BST (UK) »
Hi, i am searching my family history, on the line of Collett, the furthest back i have gotten is to Thomas Collett born in 1485 in Over Slaughter, Gloucestershire and died in 1538, he was a joint lord of the Manor of Over Slaughter. He married Alice, they had 8 children, his youngest John, is my 12th great grandfather. i got back this far thanks to family members research and this website (http://www.collettfamilyhistory.net/Part%201%20-%20The%20Main%20Line%201485%20to%201800%20Rev.15.htm)  i am not so good with researching, any help will be appreciated  :)

ps i mainly want to go back so if anyone can find his parents/grandparents that would be awesome but anything that can help with my tree will also be awesome.

THANKS!!!!

Hey Ben, will need to check if you're on same line as my Collett family but best resources for going back farther are handwritten records of the time, some will have been transcribed snd others won't have.

Which Manor do you think he was joint Lord of? There's a few Manor Houses that are linked with our family name in the area.

I do recall on my branch there being 2 brothers, if that's the same ones, but will need to go through my research notes.

In meantime, whuch branch line(s) on Brian's website do you descend from? Each are given a number.

I need to pop on to see if he's updated with info I've given him on my family and will check and see if I have anything more or, give you some resources to try.

Michelle

he was a joint lord of the Manor of Over Slaughter.

As far as I can discern from researching this, it appears Thomas Collet(t) was never Lord or joint Lord of any manot and it appears that there had been some confusion perhaps, with a descendant in the 1600s who did become Lord of another Manor House elsewhere but nearby.

Here's an extract from the research done:

"t Thomas Collett and Mr Venfield have been confused with John Collett and Gyles Venfield who were the Joint Lords of the Manor of Naunton in 1608, Naunton being only three miles from Upper Slaughter, within the Slaughter Hundred"
