Lingard Family, 47 Henderson Street, Levenshulme in 1909
« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 14:03 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have just found out that some relatives called Samuel, Isabella and child Hilda Lingard, Lived at 47 Henderson Street, Levenshulme in 1909
Samuel Lingard  was a Boot and Shoe Salesman in 1909.

I can't find them anywhere in the 1911 census.

I am wondering if anyone can find them after 1909 at the same address.

They may be in a Dirctory?

Cheers John Melling

Hello John

I can find no trace of them in 1911 using various spellings of the last name, however I did find a marriage which looks like theirs.

Samuel Lingard to Isabella Fidler
Jun qtr. 1908 in Chorley, Lancs.
Ref. 8E 1123.

Found a birth for Hilda in June qtr. 1909 in Chorlton, Lancs. Ref. 8C 888.

Checked the passenger lists just in case, but again, nothing, so it's a bit of a mystery.
Checked all the houses in Henderson Street and nothing.
All I can assume is that the last name has been transcribed totally different or they were inbetween places..

Hello John
Following up on Mike's findings and playing about with the search fields on the 1911 census . There is a Hilda LINGARD, 3yrs of age together with a Samuel in the same address. Address being in Warwickshire.
No Isabella is showing up at the address.
On free BMD there is a Isabella LINGARD in the deaths,March quarter 1909 aged 44 yrs. Registered in Birmingham and I understand that is Warwickshire. Seems coincidental :-\
Regards
Eric

Hi all,

the Samuel Lingard that married Isabella Fidler in Chorley appears to have moved to Edinburgh by 1916.
there is an army Service Record for him on Ancestry. Service no. 225155, ASC, MT

Yes, this is him, it also has as next of kin:
daughters Hilda born 20/501909 Manchester
Mabel born 21/2/1912 Edinburgh

He appears to have survived the War and been discharged
So Scotland's People might have him on Scottish 1911 census. And they should have a birth for Mabel.
Let me know if you want any more details of the army record.

 :) Barbara

Great find,
I have spent hours looking for him in trade directories and he isn't listed in Warwickshire ,there are plenty of them but definitely not him,
so now we know he went North rather than south,
