Sorry folks,

It's seeding time on the farm and I'm the go-fer. I can just sneak little dashes to the computer in between trips to the field.

My mother's connections in Shropshire were Much Wenlock to Holdgate area.... and maybe Shrewsbury. So far for Cumberland, I have found ancestors in Drigg, Ravenglass and Cleator.

The street disappearing into the background looks like it could be curving left. The windmill looking thingy is a far off power pole (I think).

I'm feeling very guilty for all the trouble everyone is going to... but, I'm loving all the funnies being bantered around.

Warm regards, Donna

the blow-up of the sign post (on the first page of this thread) shows a white house next to the church, which looks suspiciously like the white house in your arial shot, Jim, I think you've got it  ;D

I think Jim's got it! ;D

Page down on link he's given and there's a handy aerial shot of the Church, the junction and the building to the left of the church - its as if someone tok that very photo with a view to solving Duckcharm's puzzle.

You're a star Jim - we can all RELAX now! ;)

So that will be the junction of the B5295 from Whitehaven and the A5086 to Egremont (which may have formerly been a B road?)

ADDENDUM:  And the sign will say 'Cleator Moor': so all those who said they could see 'Moor' don;t need an eye test!

Okay ... okay ... time to move on!

But then again, I suppose Donna will find it useful to know the street and number of the house where the 'X' is!

If its right the sign post should read B5295 Ennerdale Rd.

I used to walk past it every day but that was 30 years ago  :)

Jim,

How brilliant!

I've been following this thread and thinking that surely some brilliant RootsChatter would identify this dear little church.

Now that you have, I've Googled for Wath Brow and found lots (far too many!) of sporting references - but here's an inside view:

Praise be to Jim  ;D  Well of course it is...I can see the name and number quite clearly now.  ;D That nights sleep did me the world of good.   It's amazing what a night out with a sailor wearing odd socks can do for one  ;)
